September Love Letter

So far this month I have been thinking a lot about intimacy and sex. I have some ideas about things to read / watch / consider, if this is speaking to you, too... Plus some other random things I am excited about it.

Our new blanket capturing intimacy... which also feels fleeting to me in this scene. Are these figures in reciprocal love? Does one want the other more? Is it sexual or platonic? You will have to decide for yourself.

I have been revisiting Esther Perel's series about couples in confinement during the early days of the pandemic. Start at Season 4, episode 11.

Katie Hawkins-Gaar started her newsletter about processing grief a year and a half after her husband died while running a half marathon. He was 32. And she, suddenly, was a 31-year-old widow.

I am in love with Katie Kimmel’s work. Her show with Lorien Stern at Hashimoto was stunning.

Are you having less sex? I would like some advice on the topic...

Sex is out, cell phones are in, according to Dr. Michelle Drouin and her book about the "intimacy famine." (I'm interviewing Michelle in a few weeks on my Substack.)

A dancing sequence...

My favorite takeout meal lately.

For parents, Margaret and I are both OBSESSED WITH WEE Society, and Margaret has started telling jokes because of this book. The only tricky part is that she thinks the laughing comes at the end of the question and not the answer…

And on the topic of kids books, @mariapopova tells the little known queer love story of Margaret Wise Brown, author of Goodnight Moon. Her love poems are stunning.

I love that Rani Ban is making free prints for teachers' classrooms. Go get one if you're a teacher!

Lastly on love, sex, intimacy, etc—our book is available for pre-order!!! Vera and I are super excited. How to Heal From Heartbreak (or at least feel less broken) is a guided journal designed to help you navigate the grief of a lost love. We're making something special for people who pre-order the book, so if you do, save your receipt!
