Hello dear friends!

First things first, what are you wearing for Halloween? I feel like this Halloween might be somewhat "normal" for our family with some light trick-or-treating or being in the world (with people!). I am thinking about M's costume and the age-old candy corn debate, along with some other items of global heaviness.

I hope you are hanging in there and finding some reasons to feel joy. The other day, I was sitting in the sun and there was a hint of fall in the air and I felt so blissfully at peace and in love with the world for a fleeting, perfect moment. It was wonderful.

Love,
Carissa

Here are a few things we're thinking about this month.

Why the girls and women of Iran are "bitchin' brave." Plus, keep an eye on Shirin Neshat's account to amplify the voices of the movement (and for coverage that's just not being published by the major media outlets).

This little boy's life can be saved, the only obstacle is money. Please donate if you can.

Kija Lucas's work is breathtaking

Another favorite of mine, J. John Priola, who was my mentor in grad school has a new book out soon and it is going to be STUNNING. If you like plants and still life and the melancholy of existence, this one is for you.

I think I found the perfect fall cake

I am totally hooked on each and every one of the Bad Sisters. Have you seen this series?

Are you the same person you used to be?

Gabrielle Blair on shifting the abortion conversation off of women's bodies.

My new book—a breakup journal—is out now!

Loooooove these hats

Check out these gorgeous lamps (and the brilliant photoshoot).

The Root Division art auction has incredible art for sale for a great cause: keeping the arts alive in SF.

It's officially the season of slowness

A poem I loved.

Last but not least, this month's LOVE TO FOLLOW is the advice column @dear.candace

Candace's advice is profound and often hilarious. Her narrative detours into the terrain of memory are the real reason I keep reading, and the questions she gets asked are SO INTERESTING. Send her one yourself!

See you soon. xx
